Dog Sizes
Did you know that choosing the wrong size for a collar, harness or lead can make your dog uncomfortable or, even worse, allow them to slip out? Not all dogs of the same weight have the same build, which is why it’s essential to properly understand dog sizes, especially by breed and weight.
If you’ve ever wondered what size your companion needs, stay until the end: we’ve prepared a practical guide to make your life much easier.
Why Is Choosing the Right Size So Important?
An incorrect size can cause far more than discomfort. A collar that’s too tight can cause chafing or make breathing difficult. One that’s too loose may allow your dog to slip free during a walk, leading to loss of control and putting their safety at risk.
At Branni Pets, we know that the perfect fit makes all the difference. That’s why we’ve created a complete guide based on breed and weight, designed to help you choose the collar, harness or garment that truly suits your companion’s needs.
Dog Sizes: By Breed
Each breed has unique physical characteristics that directly influence the size of accessories they need. Here is a general guide based on the most common breeds, although it’s always advisable to measure your dog’s neck and chest circumference before purchasing.

Juno Taupe Dog Lead
Taupe lead in Italian leather. Length 145 cm, golden hardware and ring for a poop bag holder. Elegance and functionality for every walk.
Shop NowSmall breeds such as Chihuahua, Yorkshire Terrier or Pomeranian usually require an XS size. Breeds like Poodle, Dachshund or Jack Russell tend to fit best in a size S. For medium-sized dogs such as Beagle, French Bulldog or Cocker Spaniel, the appropriate size is generally M. Labradors, Golden Retrievers and Boxers typically wear size L, while large breeds such as German Shepherds, Dalmatians or Greyhounds need size XL.
These references help as a guide, but measuring is always the key to choosing the exact right size.
Dog Sizes: By Weight
If you don’t know your dog’s exact breed or they are mixed-breed, you can use their weight as a guide. This method is very practical and is also the one we use at Branni Pets to recommend sizes with confidence.
Dogs weighing up to 4 kg usually wear size XS. If they weigh between 4 and 8 kg, size S is suitable. For dogs between 8 and 15 kg, the correct size is generally M. If they weigh between 15 and 25 kg, size L is recommended. And for dogs over 25 kg, the ideal choice is size XL.
This dog sizing system by weight is especially useful for mixed breeds or adopted dogs, where standard breed measurements do not always fully apply.
Dog Size Chart
To make your choice even easier, on the Branni Pets website you’ll find a complete and visual dog size chart. There, we explain how to correctly measure your dog’s neck and chest so you can select the size that fits best.
In addition, within each product page in our collection of collars and harnesses for dogs, you’ll find specific size recommendations depending on the type of accessory and how to adjust it properly.
